-I am pleased to be joined by Brian Solomon, podcaster, historian, and author of the new book Irresistible Force: The Life and Times of Gorilla Monsoon; welcome Brian!
-Why do you think it took so long for Gorilla's story to be told?
-I learned so much from this book about not only Gorilla's life, but the inside dynamics of the story. Buddy Rogers fascinates me.
-The Bruno/Gorilla dynamic: Bruno could not have been a stakeholder.
-Andre at Shea stadium.
-Vinny makes his move: I was always under the assumption that this was a cordial thing, but there were some tense moments here. On a Stick to Wrestling Facebook post, I said that I thought the three most important people were Pat Patterson for the mind and booking philosophy, Jim Barnett for the connections, and Gorilla with his link to the company at that time.
-I remember Gorilla for his time as an announcer. The era of Hulkamania arrives. Vince Sr's last night in the Garden, he holds the curtain for Hogan as he goes out to win the World Title.
Cyndi Lauper makes an appearance on Piper's Pit as Vince Sr. lay in state after his death.
Bobby Heenan debuts, and on October 14, 1984, joins GM at commentary for the first time. Almost 15 years later to the day, BH does his tribute to GM on Nitro.
-Struggles: declining health, Bobby Heenan leaving, Hall of Fame/Joey passes.
-October 1999: there could be a book written about that month.
Russo and Ferrara leave.
Droz accident.
GM dies.
Jeff Jarrett debacle
Going Public-Was Gorilla's family offered options?
-What do you think GM would think of today's product?
-Who would you like to see get covered next? Jim Barnett or The Grand Wizard for me.
-The Wrestling News, your history and work at WWE, and what you think of today's product?
-Closing plugs.
-Final Thoughts:
