-Today, we look at the Greensboro, North Carolina stop of the 1988 Great American Bash tour from JCP.

-The tour stop originated July 16, 1988 from the War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina. There were approximately 7,500 in attendance.

-Bugsy McGraw and Tim Horner vs. Larry Zbyszko and Rip Morgan: Tony Schiavone is your ring announcer and makes the introductions. 10 minute time limit. The bell rings. Morgan does some weird chant on the mic. McGraw makes fun of him. Zbyszko and McGraw start. Zbyszko with a scoop slam, but misses an elbow drop when McGraw moves. McGraw with a scoop slam. They lock up and drive to a corner. They break. McGraw with a side headlock. Zbyszko tries to push off, but McGraw won't let go of the headlock. Horner tagged in. He picks up the side headlock. Zbyszko pushes off, and Horner comes back with a shoulder block. He gets a second sunset flip for a two count. Morgan tagged in. He gets Horner down in a side headlock. Horner avoids Morgan's offense and hits a dropkick. McGraw tagged in, and takes over on Morgan. He gets a one count. Morgan comes back, tags Zbyszko in, and holds McGraw for Zbyszko to kick. He gets a one count. Zbyszko with a front face lock. McGraw drives back, and tags Horner in, but referee Teddy Long didn't see it and won't allow it. This gives the heels the opportunity to double team McGraw. Morgan in, and hits a clothesline on McGraw. He goes to cover, but McGraw has his foot on the ropes. Morgan misses a splash. Back and forth. Zbyszko tagged in, and McGraw reverses a corner whip. He misses an elbow drop, and Morgan tagged back in. Morgan bites McGraw. Morgan with a weak looking clothesline for a two count. Zbyszko tagged in. He misses a clothesline when McGraw holds on to the ropes. Morgan and Horner both tagged in. Horner unloads on the heels. He gets a two count on Morgan. He gets a crossbody to get the pin. The crowd likes that.

-Ronnie Garvin with Gary Hart vs. The Italian Stallion: Stallion gets a huge ovation when he is announced. The bell rings. Garvin fakes throwing his towel out before giving it to Hart. They lock up, and drive to the ropes and break. Garvin with a shoulder block and a leap frog, and he mimes that his ankle is hurting. Referee Teddy Long keeps Stallion away from Garvin. Garvin cheap shots Stallion with a punch and sits on him for the pin. Hart calls the crowd a bunch of hypocrites.

-Dick Murdoch vs. Gary Royal: The bell rings, and they are up in each other's faces. They circle each other and lock up and vie for position. They drive to a corner and break. Another lock up, and Royal with a side headlock. Murdoch lifts Royal up, but Royal doesn't let go of the side headlock. Murdoch gets Royal over for some two counts while still in the hold. He pulls on Royal's tights and gets admonished by referee Teddy Long. Murdoch gets a side headlock takeover. Royal battles to get back to his feet. He does and gets to a corner. Murdoch with an elbow to the corner. More elbows and punches by Murdoch. Royal with a modified dropkick, and Murdoch rolls out to regroup. Back in, they lock up and Murdoch with a knee to the midsection. He stomps on Royal. He brings Royal over to the apron and drops an elbow on him. He then brings Royal out, and runs him into the scaffold set up. Murdoch gets in. Royal tries to get up. Murdoch comes back out, and attacks him again and runs him back into the scaffold. Murdoch goes to bring Royal in from the apron, only to get rolled up by Royal for a two count. Murdoch is pissed off. Murdoch hits the brain buster to get the pin.

-Rick Steiner vs. Jimmy Garvin with Precious: The bell rings, and Steiner immediately attacks Garvin and stomps him down. He kicks and bites Garvin. He chokes Garvin on the second rope. Garvin moves on a corner charge. Kevin Sullivan comes to ringside and attacks Precious, and Garvin goes out after Sullivan. Steiner jumps on Garvin, and throws him back in as Sullivan leaves. He goes to pick Garvin up, and Garvin gets a quick roll up to get the pin. The crowd goes wild.

-The Rock and Roll Express Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson vs. The Sheepherders Butch Miller and Luke Williams with Rip Morgan: RNR get a fantastic ovation when they are introduced. Sheepherders reveal their flag. The crowd does not want it, and a USA chant goes out. Miller gets on the mic and berates the crowd. Morton gets on the mic and puts down the Sheepherders. It takes a while to get started. The RNR jump the Sheepherders. They drive them out of the ring to the crowd's delight. Miller is in and stalling against Gibson. Sheepherders double team Gibson. Williams in. Gibson comes back with a sunset flip. Williams misses a second rope splash. All RNR so far and the crowd is wild for them. RNR duck as Morgan comes in and he accidentally clotheslines the Sheepherders out. The RNR then double dropkick Morgan out. Williams back in against Morton. Williams beats Morton down and runs him into a turnbuckle. Miller tagged in. Morton avoids a shot and hits a dropkick. He slams both Sheepherders and runs them together. They roll out to regroup. Gibson tagged in against Miller. Williams tagged in. Back and forth. Gibson with a crossbody. Rip gets up on the apron to distract referee Tommy Young, allowing Miller to hit Gibson with the flag pole. Miller takes over on Gibson and batters him. They hit him with the flag pole again on the outside. Gibson tries to fight his way back to Morton. He is overwhelmed by the Sheepherders. The Sheepherders goad Morton in and double team Gibson as referee Tommy Young was getting Morton out. Miller gets a two count. Miller with an Irish whip, and Gibson comes back with a knee lift. Williams tagged in. He gets a sleeper on Gibson. Gibson fights back. They double team Gibson after goading Morton in again, but this time Gibson is able to hit a crossbody on both Sheepherders. Morton tagged in and unloaded on the Sheepherders. Miller breaks up a pin attempt. He throws Morton out on the floor. Gibson gets Williams in a sleeper. Miller throws Morton into a ring post. Sheepherders double team Gibson. Morton hits a crossbody to pin Williams and the crowd goes wild.

-Al Perez with Gary Hart vs. Brad Armstrong: The bell rings, and they circle each other. They lock up, drive to a corner, and break. Another lock up and break. They vie for position. Armstrong with a wrist lock. Perez with a monkey flip, but Armstrong keeps the wrist lock on. Perez gets to a corner and attacks Armstrong. Armstrong goes back to the wrist lock. Into an arm bar. Perez gets to the corner again. Armstrong goes back to the arm bar after a side headlock takeover. Back and forth. Perez with some offense, but he misses an elbow drop, and Armstrong goes back to the arm bar. Perez gets to the corner. Hart hits Armstrong on the leg, and Armstrong goes out after Hart. Perez comes out, and attacks Armstrong and slams him on the floor. Young gets Perez back in, and Hart runs Armstrong into the scaffold. Perez runs Armstrong into the ring apron. Perez with a modified airplane spin and elbow drop for a two count. Perez with a rear chin lock. Back and forth. Perez with a camel clutch. He drops his knees on Armstrong. He gets Armstrong into a bow and arrow, but breaks when Young counts his own shoulders down for a two count. Armstrong misses a corner charge. He gets several two counts on Perez after roll ups and backslides. Perez throws Armstrong out. They fight out on the floor, and Armstrong slaps Perez. Back in, Armstrong with an Irish whip and a shot. Armstrong with a nice dropkick that drives Perez back outside. He suplexes Perez in, and Hart grabs Armstrong's leg and Perez gets the pin.

-Bunkhouse tag team match. The Midnight Express Stan Lane and Bobby Eaton and Jim Cornette vs. The Fantastics Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers: The MX are the current US Tag Champs, but this isn't a title match. Rogers calls Cornette out and says why doesn't he start the match? Cornette doesn't want any part of it. Eaton and Fulton start. They drive to a corner. They trade stiff shots. The crowd wants Cornette in. Eaton slaps Fulton down. Fulton with a backdrop. Eaton bounces back and forth as the Fantastics take turns hitting him. Lane comes in, and all four go at it. It goes outside. Rogers takes off after Cornette with a chair. They do a strut in the ring and the crowd loves it. MX regroup with Cornette. Fulton calls for Cornette to get in again. Eaton hits a right hand in the corner. He goes out and gets a chair. Fulton atomic drops him onto the chair. He then hits him with the chair and clears the ring. He and Rogers go after the MX and Cornette with the chair. They hit them with chairs on the outside. They hit them several times. Cornette gets a chair. They get back in, and Cornette gets off the apron when Eaton wants to tag him in. Rogers is in against Eaton. Then Lane tagged in and Rogers unloaded on him. Cornette still won't tag in. Lane comes back with thrust kicks and chops. He throws Rogers out, but Rogers skins the cat and dropkicks Lane. Lane gets mad at Cornette for not tagging and mocks that he is going to punch him. Eaton tries to play the peacemaker. Cornette begs for forgiveness. Fulton knocks Cornette off the apron with a shot. Lane knocks Rogers outside with an enziguri, and Cornette throws a chair at Rogers. Eaton attacks Rogers with the chair. MX and Cornette take turns attacking Rogers. Young goes to check on Rogers, and Young shoves Eaton down. I hate that spot, and Young did it so much. MX continue the attack on Rogers. They guillotine Rogers and clotheslined him. Cornette finally tags in. He does a fist drop and an elbow drop to the prone Rogers. Rogers comes back and attacks Cornette. Eaton attacks Rogers with something and tags in. He and Lane double team Rogers. Cornette tagged back in with a chain around his fist and dropped it on Rogers. Eaton helps Cornette slam Rogers. Lane enters and hits a side Russian leg sweep. He and Eaton hit the Rocket Launcher. Cornette begs to be the one that pins Rogers. Rogers kicks out at two. Fulton tags in, and unloads on the MX and Cornette. All 5 in now. Cornette goes to throw powder on Fulton, who ducks and Eaton gets hit instead. Fulton clotheslines and pins Cornette, and the crowd goes wild.

-NWA TV Title Match. Mike Rotunda with Kevin Sullivan and Rick Steiner vs. Sting: The crowd is wild for Sting when he comes out. The introductions are made and the belt is presented. The bell rings. It takes a while to get started. Rotunda with a side headlock. Sting comes back with a pair of dropkicks. Steiner and Sullivan come in, and Sting dropkicks them too. That is supposed to be a disqualification. What is wrong with people? The Varsity Club goes out to regroup. The crowd gets on Rotunda with a Syracuse Sucks chant. Sting with a side headlock. Rotunda pushes off, and Sting comes back with a shoulder block. Sting with a hip toss and a slam for a two count. They lock up, and drive to a corner and break. Sting grabs Rotunda's leg when he goes to kick Sting. Sting slugs Rotunda, and drops a leg on him. Rotunda drops an elbow on Sting's leg. Sting comes back with an enziguri. Sting gets a side headlock. Rotunda pushes off, and Steiner trips Sting. Rotunda attacks Sting. He throws him out where Sullivan beats on Sting with some sort of pipe or rod. The Varsity Club takes turns hitting Sting and distracting referee Tommy Young. Back in, Rotunda with a series of moves to keep Sting down. He gets a rear chin lock on Sting. Sting battles to try and get out. Rotunda stretches his leg out, and Steiner grabs it for leverage. Sting breaks out. Back and forth. Rotunda goes to a chin lock on Sting. The crowd gets behind Sting. He gets out of the hold. Rotunda goes up top, but gets caught and slammed off. Sting throws Rotunda into the other ring, and Sting does a diving crossbody onto Rotunda to the crowd's delight. Sting unloads on Rotunda. He hits a Stinger Splash. He goes for the Scorpion Death Lock on Sting, and Steiner and Sullivan come in for the DQ. Excuse me while I roll my eyes. The crowd cheers Sting as he leaves. Steiner and Rotunda shove each other, and Sullivan breaks it up.

-Scaffold match. Ivan Koloff and the Russian Assassin with Paul Jones vs. The Road Warriors Hawk and Animal with Paul Ellering: Koloff and the Assassin are subbing for the Powers of Pain, who wanted no part of scaffold matches and left the NWA. Road Warriors get a massive pop when they come out. They climb the scaffold. The crowd cheers wildly. Tony Schiavone announces the rules and the participants. It takes a while for the heels to climb. I would have said no thanks. They finally get up. The bell rings and Koloff throws powder in Animal's face. Hawk hits both heels. Koloff attacks Animal, while Hawk takes on the Assassin. Hawk is almost thrown off. Koloff almost falls and begs off. Both Road Warriors are down on the scaffold. Animal hits a dropkick to Koloff. Why? Koloff knocks Hawk down. Assassin chokes Hawk on the side of the scaffold. Back and forth. Koloff starts to climb down. Animal kicks him off to the crowd's delight. Koloff gets a chain from Jones and climbs back up. Assassin and Hawk are on their knees exchanging blows. Koloff wraps the chain around Animal's neck. Hawk kicks Assassin, and they fight under the scaffold, until Hawk kicks Assassin off. Jones and Ellering start fighting in the ring and Ellering slams Jones. The crowd goes wild. They start to take the scaffold down and put the cage up.

-War Games Main Event. The Horsemen Ric Flair, Barry Windham, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, and JJ Dillon vs. Lex Luger, Dusty Rhodes, Nikita Koloff, Steve Williams, and Paul Ellering: The teams confer. The bell rings. Rhodes and Anderson start. Anderson attacks right away. Rhodes comes back with shots. Anderson begs off. He gets in the other ring. Back and forth. Rhodes with a DDT. Anderson ran into the cage. Rhodes runs him in repeatedly, and Anderson is bleeding. He comes back and hits Rhodes with a pair of pliers, and Rhodes is bleeding. Rhodes hits a low blow. They trade blows. Rhodes puts the figure four on. The Horsemen win the coin toss. Windham in. He begs off, but Rhodes attacks him. The crowd cheers. Windham and Anderson double team Rhodes. Windham puts the claw on Rhodes. Williams in. He unloads on the heels. He hits them with the Stampede. They pair off. Windham thrown from one ring to the other. Anderson ran into the cage. Flair in. He hits Williams, who no sells it until Flair low blows Williams. Horsemen regain the advantage. Williams ran into the cage. Luger enters the cage to a massive pop, and goes after Flair. Double clothesline to Flair and Windham. Luger unloads on the Horsemen. They double team him to get him down. Flair tries to run Luger into the cage. Luger with corner mounted punches to Flair. Blanchard enters the cage. He attacks Williams, and then hits Luger with a chair. They pair off again. Flair and Anderson are working over Luger. Koloff enters the cage. Flair and Windham attack him, but he doesn't sell it and attacks them instead. Williams power slams Anderson. Several low blows in the cage. Dillon in. He and Windham double team Luger. Dillon is attacking everyone. Koloff with corner mounted punches to JJ. All pair off. Ellering in. The Match Beyond begins. They all pair off again. Forearms flying. JJ goes for a dropkick to Ellering, but misses when Ellering holds on to the ropes. Rhodes puts JJ in the figure four and JJ gives up. The crowd goes wild. The faces celebrate as they fade to black.

-Final Thoughts: A good show, and much better than the Bash PPV that year.
