-Today we take a look at Clash of the Champions XXXII from WCW.
-Clash XXXII was shown on TBS on January 23, 1996 from Caesars Palace in Paradise, NV. There were approximately 3,400 in attendance.
-We start out seeing footage of Randy Savage winning the World Title on Nitro, Savage's confrontation with Hulk Hogan, and Sting and Lex Luger winning the tag titles.
-Intro. Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan welcome us to the Clash. They talk about the matches we are going to see. Mean Gene Okerlund is at the little white chapel and the wedding of Col. Parker and Sister Sherri.
-Public Enemy Fly boy Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge vs. The Nasty Boys Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags: The crowd is into the Nasty Boys. The bell rings, and all four go at it. Sags and Rock fight outside and Knobbs clotheslines Grunge inside. Sags ran into the barricade. Grunge hits a belly to back suplex. Rock crotched on the barricade. Grunge spills outside after Knobbs ducks a clothesline. Sags grabs a table and brings it in the ring. Sags puts the table in the corner. Rock blocks going into the table by bulldogging Sags. Rock hits Knobbs with a moonsault for a two count. Knobbs with a back elbow. Sags hits Grunge with a piledriver. Nasty Boys set the table up. Referee Nick Patrick DQ'd both teams. Public Enemy comes back. They put Knobbs on the table and Rock moonsaults onto it, but it was one of those thick tables and doesn't really break. Sags hits Grunge with a part of the table. He then throws the table on Grunge. He grabs a part of the now broken table and hits Grunge with it back to the dressing room.
-SuperBrawl VI ad. Eric Biscoff brings out Ric Flair and the Giant. They talk about Flair losing the World Title to Randy Savage. Flair says he will get his title back, and he and the Giant are going to take Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan out tonight.
-Dean Malenko vs. Alex Wright: Flashback to what led to the match. The bell rings, and they trade holds and counters. Wright headscissors Malenko out of the ring. Malenko back in, and works on Wright's leg. He runs it into a corner post. Malenko keeps up the assault on the leg. Wright with a back elbow and a reverse crossbody to Malenko. Wright with an Irish whip and a dropkick. Malenko comes back with a belly to back suplex. Malenko goes up top, but Wright catches him with a dropkick. Wright hits a superplex. Wright with a German suplex for a two count. Malenko with a back elbow and a clothesline. Malenko with a roll up to get the pin.
-The Taskmaster Kevin Sullivan with Jimmy Hart vs. Disco Inferno: An Elvis Impersonator comes out and tells us that Disco is singing at the wedding, and Sullivan beats up the impersonator.
-Mean Gene talks to Dick Slater and Bunkhouse Buck as they show up for the wedding. They don't know where Colonel Parker is. Eric Bischoff talks to Lex Luger and Sting. Bischoff says there is a lot of controversy about their win. Luger says there isn't any controversy; he and Sting are the best. They get confronted by the Road Warriors. They say they want a shot at the belts. Sting says yes, Luger says no. He says they haven't earned it. Hawk calls him out.
-Paul Orndorff interview about his injury, being attacked by the Horsemen, and even mentions his real life fight with Vader. Mean Gene talks to Colonel Parker. He says he's lost all of his money. He gets a call on the phone, and he reassures the person on the other end. Meanwhile, his cab driver wants to be paid.
-Brian Pillman vs. Eddie Guerrero: Probably one of the most infamous moments in WCW. Pillman out first acting crazy. Guerrero gets a good reaction when he comes out. The bell rings, and they circle each other. Pillman stalling. They shove each other. Pillman rolls out. He berates the fans. He shoves Tony before getting back in. Guerrero with a side headlock. Pillman pushes off and Guerrero comes back with a shoulder block. Pillman with a waist lock. He goes for a roll up. Guerrero holds on to the ropes, and then comes back with a dropkick that knocks Pillman outside. Pillman grabs Heenan and tries to hide behind him. It naturally freaks Heenan out, because he had just gotten surgery about a year and a half previously and he yells what the fuck are you doing at Pillman. Heenan thought he was going to be fired for this. This was all Pillman's fault. Heenan gets up and paces around. Heenan finally comes back and apologizes. Guerrero hits a tilt a whirl backbreaker. Pillman bites Guerrero. He chokes and slaps Guerrero. Pillman with a rear chin lock. Schiavone talks about this is the new Four Horsemen. That group has really gone downhill. He says he can't imagine Chris Benoit doing something like that, and we have reached the surreal part of the night. Guerrero comes back with a dropkick. Another dropkick knocks Pillman back out. They trade blows when Pillman gets back in. Pillman with a corner whip. Guerrero gets the knees up. He gets a tornado DDT on Pillman. He gets a two count. Back and forth. Pillman gets a two count. Guerrero with a roll up for a two count. Pillman gets the pin with a handful of tights. He then comes out towards Heenan again, who gets up, and Pillman went too far with this.
-Eric Bischoff brings out Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, and Kevin Greene. Hogan talks about their momentum and Greene being in their corner. All three men are gone now. They talk about being ready and their final secret weapon, Elizabeth, being in their corner.
-WCW World Tag Team Championship Match. Sting and Lex Luger vs. The Blue Bloods Steven Regal and Robert Eaton: Regal and Sting start. The bell rings, and they circle each other. Regal stalling. They lock up, and Regal with a wrist lock. They trade wrist locks. Sting with a takedown. He hits a dropkick, and Regal is selling like no other. Eaton tagged in. Sting gets him in the corner, and Luger tagged in. Eaton throws Luger out, and comes out after him. Luger with a backdrop and a clothesline to Eaton. Eaton thrown back in. Regal tagged in. They lock up, and drive to a corner and break when referee Nick Patrick separates them. Regal pokes Luger in the eyes. Regal with a series of uppercuts. Eaton tagged back in. Luger fights Eaton. Luger gets close to the corner, and Regal pokes him in the eye again, and Eaton hits a neck breaker. Regal tagged in, and drops an elbow for a two count. Regal with a snap mare for a two count. Eaton tagged in. He and Regal double team Luger and Eaton hits a top rope knee drop. Regal tagged in. He gets the Regal stretch on and Sting breaks it up. Eaton tagged in, and comes off the top rope, only to be caught by Luger. They crash to the mat. They get up, and collide in the ring. A double count is going. Sting tagged in and unloaded on the Blue Bloods. All four in briefly. Luger thrown out. Eaton comes off the top rope, and accidentally hits Regal. Sting gets the Scorpion Death Lock on, and Eaton gives up. The crowd loves the result.
-Mean Gene is back, and Sherri arrives. Parker tells her he is out of money. She is not happy. Eric Bischoff talks to Brian Pillman. He tries to act up his Loose Cannon character. He then talks about respect and his issues with Kevin Sullivan.
-Mexican Heavyweight Championship Match. Konnan vs. Psychosis: Mike Tenay joins commentary. They go outside immediately and then come back in. Back and forth as they get a feel of each other in a WCW ring. Konnan with a submission vice. Psychosis gets to the ropes. Konnan with a pair of German suplexes. They circle each other. Konnan with a catapult into a submission. Psychosis gets out and comes back with a spin heel kick. Psychosis with a submission of his own. They trade submissions and both get to the ropes. Konnan with a springboard throw. Konnan with a flurry of offense into a DDT. Psychosis hits a missile dropkick and a tope. Both down on the outside. Konnan with a German Superplex. He gets a standing figure four zip-lock to get the submission.
-Mean Gene is back, and Sherri is getting ready in the limo. Gene offers to give Sherri away. Gene talks to Sherri about the call, and she says she hasn't talked to Robert Parker since yesterday. Disco Inferno is there getting into the spirit of things. Parker is saying that he is nervous. They start to get married. The official asks for objections. She then starts the vows, and Madusa attacks Sherri. They start to fight. The Stud Stable and Harlem Heat separate them.
-Main Event. Ric Flair and The Giant with Jimmy Hart vs. Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage with Woman, Elizabeth, and Kevin Greene: Heels come out first. The video screen shows footage of Hulk Hogan beating down Vader. Just petty. Liz comes out and I think she is prettier here than when she was in the WWF. Michael Buffer makes the introductions. The bell rings. Savage and Flair start. Flair mocks Greene. Greene gets in the ring, and Flair gets out immediately. He tells Greene another time. Flair and Savage lock up. They drive to a corner and Flair chops Savage. Savage comes back with a series of clotheslines. Savage corner whips Flair, who does his up and over to the apron and runs into Hogan's boot, so TASIYDAH. Hogan throws Flair back in. Flair begs off and then hits Savage. He chops Savage. Savage hits a backslide for a two count. Back and forth. Flair tags Giant in. Hogan also tags in. Giant pushes Hogan. Another lock up and push off. Hogan with a side headlock. Giant pushes off. Hogan comes back with a shoulder block, but can't budge the Giant. He tries to slam the Giant, but can't. Giant slams Hogan. Giant with a big boot and an elbow. Giant with a headbutt down low. He hits a backbreaker. He misses an elbow drop. Hogan slams the Giant, but Hogan hurts his back. Flair tagged in. He slams Hogan, who no sells it and comes back on Flair. Hogan with a backdrop. Hart gets on the apron so the heels can double team Hogan. All four in briefly. Giant pulls Hogan out. He rams him on the barricade, and then rolls Hogan in. Flair chops Hogan. Flair goes up top, but gets caught and slammed off, so TASIYDAH. Savage tagged in and hit a double ax handle to Flair. Hogan and Giant battle on the floor. Savage hits the flying elbow drop. Hart back on the apron. Flair hits Savage with a foreign object and pins Savage. Greene tells Hogan what happened. Zodiac and Brian Pillman hit the ring. Hogan and Greene throw them out. They check on Savage. They recap what happened and sign off from Las Vegas.
-Final Thoughts: An okay show with the highlights being the classless Pillman shenanigans with Heenan and the wedding.
